Solo contest is a district-wide opportunity for 6th through 8th grade students to prepare and memorize a classical style vocal solo. Students will learn a solo on their own and meet with me once a week to review their work. On November 5, students will compete at Independence High School. At the contest, students will perform for a highly-qualified vocal judge who will give the student meaningful and age appropriate, individualized feedback and a performance evaluation grade. Students competing who earn a “Superior” (1) evaluation will receive a solo medal. In addition, each judge will select an “Outstanding Soloist” and make recommendations for a 1st, 2nd & 3rd place “Overall FISD Outstanding Soloist.” Both will receive an additional reward for their achievement.

- September 12 - Student registration opens
- Once they are registered, I will help them select their solos
- October 6 - Deadline to register students
- October 21 - Student payment deadline
- November 5 - Solo Contest at Independence High School
